UPDATE 2/17/11: After a 3 week struggle with his broken leg in an uncomfortable cast, Champ's leg has not showed any signs of healing and the cast has proved to hinder his recovery because of infection and pain. On 2/9/11 Champ had the major surgery to amputate his front leg. It was a rough recovery and extensive post-op care. He and his foster mom struggled to keep him comfortable that week, but check out Champ's recent video showing just how strong and happy he is now! He has fully recovered and is living a fun-filled, playful life of a puppy. He will live a full, normal life with an extra touch of personality and strength gained from his lost leg.
1/25/11: Little Champ was brought into our vet clinic with a broken leg after being thrown off the bed by the toddler in his home. At only 3 months old, he's had a rough start at life, this being his third home, only to be put to sleep because these owners could not afford the care for his broken leg. Thankfully, our director came to his rescue and treatment has began to repair the fracture of his right humerus, close to the growth plate in his elbow joint.
Champ must spend the next few weeks in his foster home, under the care of our veterinarian, with a cast on his front leg, hoping to heal the fracture well enough that the leg will be fully functional quickly. However, there is a chance that the leg will have to be amputated in correct healing does not take place over the next few weeks. Either way, this puppy is blessed to be alive and appreciates your support during his road to recovery!
Champ's name was chosen in honor of a Champ who blessed us with his prescence last year with a similar, but much more severe injury that was sadly unable to repair. The new little Champ has a lot to live up to and has been promised a full recovery and one last, forever loving family who will feel blessed to have him and cherish him for years to come!
Champ's medical care will consume a significant amount of our donated funds, please consider donating to his recovery journey and assure him the care he deserves and a fabulous puppyhood from here on.
