UPDATE 8/3/16: Allie Is Officially Available for Adoption!!! We are so excited to announce that Allie has been released from medical care, her heart worm treatment was a success, she is healthy, full of life and love, and she is ready to find her forever family! Allie is a pretty active young girl, just over a year old so would be great with an active family/person who would keep her entertained, exercised, or even had a job for her to do to exercise her mind and body! She is a great family dog, loves other pets and children. She will excel in obedience training, she is so smart and willing to relearn all her basic skills and manners, since she knew none before and then has spent her time with us under medical treatment and required crate confinement. This beautiful, loving girl will be a great addition to a fun loving person/family ready for an awesome dog!
Allie joined our program in early May after being taken to animal control by her owner who no longer wanted her or her sister. Sadly, this beautiful girl is suffering with Heartworm Disease at only 12 months old, a condition so easily preventable yet so common in our area. Treatment for this life threatening disease has begun and Allie is doing very well, hopefully that will continue into next month when phase two of the treatment begins which means spinal injections of toxic medication (comparative to chemo therapy) and cage confinement while the heart worms are dying off. Please keep Allie in your thoughts and prayers over the next several months as she undergoes treatment and overcomes Heartworm Disease. This treatment typically costs over $500 and spans out over 3-4 months, we certainly appreciate any donations towards her medical costs and daily care while she remains tries to rest and recoup in her foster home. We look for her to be available for adoption towards the end of summer provided that she pulls through treatment with flying colors and is ready to find that amazing, forever family. Because she is so young and treatment has began quickly, we do not expect any lasting health effects from the disease. Thank you for thinking of Allie and supporting our efforts to save pets just like her!
